Where Traditions Meet Sisterhood

Every business has a starting point, but the real story of Mahjong Sisterhood began long before I ever thought about launching a company. It began at a mahjong table with my neighbors.

What I found there — the laughter, the cross-generational mentoring, the friendly competition, the way conversation flowed freely and connections deepened game by game — reminded me of something I had been building and rebuilding with every move I've made since college. And I kept thinking: what if more women could find — and keep — that same thing around a mahjong table?

That question became Mahjong Sisterhood. I started with a conviction that a beautifully crafted, bespoke mahjong set could be more than a game. It could be the centerpiece for gatherings. An honored tradition. A celebration of what connects us.

My hope is that when you look at your set, you see your values, your icons, and your traditions reflected back at you — and that it becomes a reason to stay connected to your sisters, for life.

Warmly,
Oleta

From the Start
Two ancient traditions. One shared vision.

A Founding Gratitude

Our logo was designed with intention. At its heart, a Chinese block print. Above it, an Ionic column. Two ancient traditions united by a single truth: that women have always found ways to show up for one another.

The Block Print & The Chinese Roots of Mahjong

Block printing originated in China before 220 AD — a technology born not just to record, but to connect. To say: this matters, and it deserves to be shared.

Mahjong carried that same conviction. Around those tiles, Chinese women gathered to share news, find solidarity in oppression, celebrate in joy, and show up for each other when it counted most. The table was a lifeline. The game was a language. That connection was — and remains — both resilience and joy.

The Ionic Column & The Greek Panhellenic Tradition

The Ionic column has graced Greek architecture for over 2,500 years — its signature scrolled capitals a symbol of elegance, intellect, and graceful strength. For us, it represents the Greek Panhellenic tradition: sisterhoods built on the same impulse that gathered women around Mahjong tables. The need to belong. To find your people. To stand together in shared values and commitment, through ritual, through joy, through life.

Where Two Worlds Meet

Separated by centuries and continents, these two traditions discovered the same truth. The most powerful bonds transcend culture, geography, and time. Mahjong Sisterhood exists to honor that — and to carry it forward.
